Up until this year, New Zealand did not have specific laws relating to computer
misuse. From 1 October 2003, provisions introduced by the Crimes Amendment Act
2003 should enable the police and Courts to deal with computer crime more effectively. |

New Electronic Transactions
Act
The much-awaited Electronic Transactions Act 2002 passed into law on 10 October
2002. The new Act confirms that electronic transactions are now on the same legal
footing as paper-based transactions. It will enable businesses and the public
sector to enjoy greater flexibility through the use of electronic communications,
and to reduce business compliance costs in day-to-day transactions. |

face losing their trade mark protection where the trade mark has become so well
known that it has come into common usage as a general term for a particular kind
